PlateNext

A self-hosted project tool

What's next on your plate.

PlateNext is a quiet, self-hosted project tool for small teams that ship real work — construction, rentals, the personal project you keep meaning to finish. Vendor email lives next to the project it's about, in a sibling webmail.

01  ·  What it is

A project tool the size of a project tool.

Most project software is either an enterprise platform with a sales team or a kanban toy with a mascot. PlateNext is the middle thing — a small, opinionated app for a small, opinionated team. You break work into projects, projects into tasks, tasks into sub-tasks as deep as the work goes. There's a board per project for execution, and one personal view that pulls everything you're on the hook for into one place.

what’s on your plate.

Vendor work — the architect, the supplier, the repair person — lives where vendor work belongs: in your inbox. PlateNext's sibling, the webmail at webmail.platenext.com, grows a small sidebar that ties any vendor message to the project it's about. One keystroke. No second system to keep in sync.

Personal projects are private by default. The garage you're rebuilding doesn't show up on the team board. You can invite a friend in by email, or you can just close the door.

02  ·  What you do here

Built for work that has a calendar, a budget, and people on both sides of it.

  1. i.

    A spine you can navigate

Project → Task → Sub-task, as deep as the work goes. A per-project board for execution, a per-person plate for everything you owe across projects. No sprints, no story points, no velocity charts. Linear-shaped, not Jira-shaped.

  2. ii.

    Vendor coordination, in the inbox

The webmail sidebar attaches an inbound message to the right project in one keystroke. Outbound goes under a stable identity per relationship — so you can hand off a vendor to a teammate without the vendor noticing a new email address.

  3. iii.

    Deliverables and commitments, first-class

"The architect owes Floor Plan v3 by Tuesday" is an entity with a state and a due date and an audit trail. Not a row in a spreadsheet someone keeps. Not a screenshot in a thread that lives or dies with the thread.

03  ·  The suite

One member of a small, self-hosted suite.

PlateNext lives at pm.platenext.com. Its sibling, a webmail, lives at webmail.platenext.com. They share one sign-in, one identity store, and a shared sense of what a Project is. Voice is on the roadmap for v4. There is no app launcher and no umbrella product — just two URLs that know about each other.

Design phase. No code yet. The design lives in docs/PRD.md and docs/ROADMAP.md in the repo, and so far, on this page. If you leave your email below we'll write you when v1 ships — we'd rather under-promise than ship you a fake "Sign in" button.

An email when v1 ships, an email when it's stable. Nothing in between, nothing after.
